small groups concept. |
Small GroupsWe will then divide a larger group into groups of 6-10 people, each with a "facilitator" who will guide the conversations. This will give us an opportunity to share in a more intimate circle and make strong bonds.
|
TopicsTopics will include African American History (the type they don't teach in the history books), post slavery issues, white supremacy, systemic racism, and different levels of oppression. We strive to tie modules in to relevant current topics and root our discussions in Jewish values of tikkun olam, repairing the world and betzelem elohoim, the infinite worth, equality, and uniqueness of each human life.
|
MediaWe will discuss a variety of different media: articles, documentaries, movies, podcasts, videos, and guest speakers.
|
ActionWe will always end with suggestions for REAL ACTION. Actions take the form of guided personal reflections, individual learning, creating anti-racist initiatives, and/or joining established advocacy efforts.
We all work to be each other's accountability partners and share resources between scheduled meetings. |
(Un)comfortableThe goal is not to pat ourselves on the back for having done “the work” and feeling less racist, the goal is for everyone to feel justified and empowered to fix systemic racism.
We will practice feeling uncomfortable with information we learn about. That feeling is important in order to make progress.
